The Lord says:
2 You can’t believe idols and fortunetellers, or depend on the hope you receive from witchcraft and interpreters of dreams. But you have tried all of these, and now you are like sheep without a shepherd.
3 I, the Lord All-Powerful, am fiercely angry with you leaders, and I will punish you. I care for my people, the nation of Judah, and I will change this flock of sheep into charging war horses. (Zachariah 10:1-3, Contemporary English Version)
This a word in season. The first verse is a promise, the second a warning, and the third a prophecy.
First, God promises that if we need rain, we should pray, and He will send it! We want the produce of the field, but the field needs rain to produce anything. As the signs on I-5 throughout the San Joaquin Valley remind us, “life grows where water flows.” So God says, pray!
Then God warns us that false gods and false prophets abound, but their word is no good! If you don’t listen to God, you will fall for a counterfeit and be confused.
Finally, God says, I will transform sheep into “charging war horses!”
Rain is coming, as we pray! And God is transforming the praying sheep into charging warhorses to ravage the camp of the enemy of our souls, rescue the lost and hurting, and expand the kingdom of God!
